Main Street USA (Magic Kingdom)

This photo is a little older than most of the ones I have posted, as the colors are slightly off but still I really like the composition. The castle in the background is almost acting as a 'pied-piper' for the thousands of people who are approaching it. Remember what I said a few weeks ago about Walt's concept of the wienie to lead people in a certain direction.

The Matterhorn (Disneyland)

Rising to the heavens at the end of Main Street USA is the Matterhorn Mountain, a scale replica of the Matterhorn in Sweeden (I think). This mountain houses the Matterhorn Bobsleds, a toboggan roller coaster type ride with several encounters with the Abominable Snowman. A true Disney classic, seens only in California. I loved it!

I'm Back!
Back from the Walt Disney World Resort and ready to serve up some incredible new photos for your enjoyment. Special thanks during the trip go to: my wife Karen, my grandfather, and my buddy Jason and his family for helping to make the vacation a memorable and enjoyable one. But enough of me about my vacation....scroll down for a new photo!

(ps) Tell me what you want to see and I may be able to help you out!

Mickey's PhilharMagic (Magic Kingdom)

Mickey's PhilharMagic is a 3D+ theater show in the Magic Kingdom which requires the use of special 'opera glasses' to get the full effect. There are some surprises during the show which WILL catch you off guard but you are just going to have to see it yourself to find out. The premise of the show is this...Mickey is the conductor of an orchestra and tells Donald not to touch his Sorcerer's hat. Well, Donald touches the hat and as you can see, it doesn't end up well for the Duck.

Gone Fishing...
Actually, I am at Walt Disney World right now, and have been since Saturday the 13th. I will attempt to post a pic or two in the AM, but at least you now know why the site has not been updated for a few days.

Actually to quote Disney:

"Please pardon our appearance, this area is being refurbished for your future enjoyment." (or something like that).

Por favor mantenganse allejado de las puertas! (a true WDW classic).

Tomorrowland (Magic Kingdom)

Entrance to Tomorrowland, Magic Kingdom. This is one area where the Florida park clearly outshines it's California predecessor. The neon, the sounds, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority making lap after lap. It's great!

The new look...
Major thanks to Shylah Erskin at One By One Media for her help in re-designing this blog into something a little more magical and a little less 'template'. Her patience and assistance are something that are very much appreciated and highly recommended. I cannot say enough about how nice of a job she did, well...just look at the blog and the proof is in the pudding. Cudos!

Shylah, is there anything I can do to re-pay your kindness?

In an effot to make visiting a bit easier on your computers and to save bandwith, I have limited the main page to the ten most recent posts, down from 31. You are encouraged to go into the archives section to see more content. This change will most certainly make pages load faster.

Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom)

Space Mountain is the ultimate Magic Kingdom thrill ride. Riders board a 'sled' that hurdles them through space at warp speed...well, it's a twisty bouncy roller coaster in the dark with some special effects mixed in. The queue is themed for a futuristic launch effect and the 'postshow' is also quite good with scenes depicting life on other plants and robots.

Carousel of Progress (Magic Kingdom)

There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow...
Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress made it's debut at the 1964 World's Fair and from there was moved to Disneyland and then the Magic Kingdom. This long running audio-animatronic stage show features a theater that rotates around five stages and tells the story of electrical progress from 1900 to the present. A true classic in every sense of the word.

So, watcha think??
I added a new masthead and replaced the old template one with a custom design, created by your's truly. What do you think? I think it captures the essences of the five parks I have been to, as these are the most famous "weenies" of the parks.

"Weenie" is a term Walt Disney used to describe a major attracting point, a center of focus, a reward of sorts for exploration. Most weenies in the parks are visual, hence the images in the masthead, however some can be auditory, such as the whistle of the Mark Twain that is instantly recognized whenever it is heard. They can also be olfactory, such as the smells of the shops on Main Street USA...

I have been corresponding with someone via email to re-design this site away from the boring old Blogspot template into something that truly captures the Disney Magic. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. If any of you can tell me how to get rid of the old title that is still lurking above the masthead, and possibly center the masthead a bit better, please let me know!

Finally, I have added a link to the atom.xml site feed for this blog on the right side...I cleverly hid it under a link called "Site Feed" :)

Main Street USA (Magic Kingdom)

One of the vignettes that you find in the Magic Kingdom, the balloon seller. I love Main Street USA, even if it is just a way to shake more money out of your pockets as you come and go. Walt Disney designed this turn of the century small town 'Main Street' after his home town of Marcelline, MO, however Main Street USA has that feeling of AnyTown USA at the same time. It is quaint, with lots of shops and restaraunt that ooze character due to the atmosphere and themeing. The selling point, to me, is that it doesn't pretend to be authentic...it just is what it is (and it is good).

The Living Seas (Epcot)

The jellyfish exhibit at the Living Seas, Epcot. I love the way this shot came out with the 'electric' look. The shot was taken looking through a fish tank type container with nothing fancy added in post-processing.

Country Bear Jamboree (Magic Kingdom)

This one is for you, John. This is the County Bear Jamboree, located in Frontierland, Magic Kingdom. The opening act with the "Five Bear Rugs...plus Gomer". This particular image was taken during the Christmas conversion last December but the show is essentially the same as the classic CBJ from WDW and DL. The show features numerous audio-animatronic bears in a wild country hoedown. I dislike country music but LOVE this show. It is an A-list classic that is not be missed on any WDW trip.

A few new things....
Hi all...

A few new things on the blog....I have added a new poll which simply asks, what is your favorite Disney park? Also, I have gone back through the relatively short history of this blog and tallied up all the comments that I have received back from viewers and made a "Favorite Fans" section at the bottom of the right frame. Those of you who are regular posters will find your names on this list and I will soon be adding a link back to your blogs.

For those of you who come here and look around but don't post comments...feel free to do so. I read every one of them and they keep me motivated to continue this exercise. According to my calculations, I have gotten 1965 visits since 7/4/2005 but only 54 comments (comes out to approx. 1 in 36 visits leaving a comment). So....let's kick it up a notch and get your name in pixels!! Who knows, maybe I will even give you a 4 x 6 print of a photo you commented on....you never know.

-Tim

Festival of the Lion King (Animal Kingdom)

This fireeater is one of the acts during the Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom. The FOTLK is a great live action show that should not be missed on any trip to AK. I wasnt too sure how much I would like the show, but it became one of my favorite AK attractions.

The Walt Disney World Grand Floridian Resort. The best of the best. Shown here in twilight splendor. Overlooking Bay Lake and adjacent to the Magic Kingdom, this resort is themed in 1900's Victorian.

Disney MGM Studios

Enter the Disney MGM Studios and walk down Hollywood Blvd. straight into this giant Sorcerer Mickey hat. Constructed as the centerpiece to the Studios, this giant hat lights up with all kinds of strobe and glitter effects at night and is really cool to look at. Directly behind "The Hat" is the Great Movie Ride, a Studios classic.

Epcot Entrance Plaza

The entrance plaza to Epcot in Florida. The massive white ball is Spaceship Earth, the signature attraction of Epcot. The mable columns host the Leave a Legacy program in which guests can have a photo of themselves taken and etched into aluminum plaques which are displayed on the marble columns.

Maharajah Jungle Trek (Animal Kingdom)

This beautiful cat is getting some sun and relaxing from everyday life (oh wait, it's a cat- life is always relaxing) in the Maharajah Jungle Trek attraction. This self-guided walking tour at Animal Kingdom is a nice leisurely diversion from the lines and crowds and gives guests a chance to see numerous animals up close and personal.
